First Chamber iPhone App in the UK?

Friday 23rd July 2010

iPhone AppChief Exec Bob Davidson of Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce who today released the Chambers new iPhone application believes it is.....

The app allows members and non members to view up-to-date information on news and events, get instant detailed information on the Chamber management team and the Board of Directors, read about the services on offer and to gain instant access to contact information on all members within the member database.

The app has been approved by Apple and is free to download on iTunes. However unlike standard mobile development that requires expert developers to build such applications, the Chamber app was built online using a new ‘build it yourself’ iPhone app system developed by Chamber member ISAI Digital Media under their mobile division mVenture.

Commenting on what the Chamber hopes to achieve by releasing this app, Bob said “like any other business, you need to innovate, and we are no different. We are constantly looking at cost effective ways of doing things better – and we believe this iPhone app is one way of connecting better with businesses that are using latest mobile technologies”.

Craig Champion, Technical Director of mVenture the company that designed the software to allow companies to build their own apps online said, “we chose Renfrewshire Chamber, as yes they are our local Chamber, but under Bob’s leadership they do connect with the members on a 1-2-1 basis and are keen to evolve and move the Chamber forward, so it was not a hard sell as Bob and the team see the potential”

Whilst the Chamber iPhone app uses many of the latest features available on the iPhone such as, Google maps to show event locations, YouTube videos and Twitter integration, both the Chamber and mVenture are committed to developing the app as Chamber members provide feedback.

According to James Scott, Marketing Director at mVenture “iPhone apps are just the beginning; we are currently developing the system to enable the Chamber to launch Blackberry, Android (Google) and Windows mobile phone apps so that information is available to all Chamber members no matter what smartphone they have”.

The app can be downloaded for free via iTunes, just search for Renfrewshire Chamber.
