FROM JETS TO BENTO TO WOODEN HANDBAGS
A new airline service linking Scotland to major European cities; wooden handbags made from sustainable wood sources and Bento Box Japanese lunchboxes are just of the exciting new business proposals submitted by young entrepreneurs for Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce’s ‘Local Legends’ competition.
At the closing date nearly 40 young entrepreneurs across the West of Scotland entered the competition to win a share of £30,000 and the chance to pitch their ideas to Iain Graham of Graham Technology, Steve Clark (Clark Contracts); John McGlynn (The Airlink Group) and John McGuire (Phoenix Car Company).

Organised by Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, the ‘Local Business Legends 2008’ aims to offer three entrepreneurs the chance to win a share of £30,000 in three categories: Best Young Business; Best New Business and Best Innovative Business Idea. The categories are being equally funded by Renfrewshire Chamber, Renfrewshire Council and Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire.
The three categories are open to entrepreneurs from Renfrewshire aged between 18 and 35 and the winners will be announced at a gala dinner at Mar Hall on Wednesday 28th May.
Commenting, Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce Chairman Tom Johnston said: “We have been amazed and delighted at the diversity of ideas and the ambition that the next generation of entrepreneurs clearly have to build major businesses. Some of the entrants are still teenagers or in their early twenties yet they are demonstrating great entrepreneurial spirit. Scotland’s economic future looks in good hands!”
The Full Shortlist is
Young Business (trading for between one and two years)
New Business (trading for less than one year)
Innovative Business Idea (developed an innovative business idea)
