Launch of Free Bus Service to Muirshiel Country Park

Thursday 24th June 2010

Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park will be running a FREE bus service to Muirshiel Country Park & Visitor Centre, the bus will meet visitors at Lochwinnoch Railway Station and will take them up to Muirshiel Country Park four miles outside Lochwinnoch.

Muirshiel Country Park and Visitor Centre is the gateway to the heart of the Regional Park with a variety of walks or cycles suitable for all abilities.  At this time of year the Parks ‘Discover Wildlife on Screen’ project provides the opportunity to watch camera footage of one of our rarest birds, the hen harrier as well as spot a range of widlife at the feeding stations.  The project also has interactive displays, childrens activities, trail guides, special event days, talks and guided walks.

Our FREE bus service offers our visitors a greener way of getting to Muirshiel Country Park allowing them to make the journey using public transport.

Fiona Carswell, Marketing Officer at Clyde Muirshiel said “with everyone being more aware of our enviroment this transport service provides an ideal opportunity for those with cars to be able to leave them at home, or those without a car the opportunity to visit a rural destination to enjoy a range of healthy recreational opportunities and discover a little of the natural heritage on our doorstepThe bus does stop at Castle Semple Centre and there are plenty of bike racks there, ideal for those wanting to use the sustrans cycle route but not wanting to cycle up too long a hill!

The bus will be running for four Sundays through the summer: 27th June, 4th July, 11th July, 18th July and will pick up visitors from Lochwinnoch train station at 12.00 and 13.00 hrs or from Castle Semple Visitor Centre, Lochwinnoch before heading up the road to Muirshiel Visitor Centre. The return bus will leave Muirshiel at 15.00 and 16.00 hrs taking visitors back down to Castle Semple Visitor Centre in Lochwinnoch and Lochwinnoch Railway Station.

Please contact Muirshiel Visitor Centre on tel 01505 842 803 for more information and to reserve a place on the bus.  If the day or the times do not suit you, we’d be interested in know what would be better, please give us a call.
