New Local Producers

 for Lochwinnoch Farmers’ Market

Castle Semple Centre    Sunday 5 Sept at 11:00 – 14.30 hrs

Market organisers have responded to consumer requests for this autumn market, the micro brewery - Houston Brewing Company will be attending for the first time and back by popular demand is Fencebay Fishery from Fairlie.

Karen from the Houston Brewing Company said “We are very much looking forward to our first Lochwinnoch Farmers Market.  We know that this event is always a busy one and features many producers from various environments, presenting a wide range of produce for the consumer.

Come and visit our stall indoors where you will be able to sample, for over 18’s only, some of our traditionally hand brewed ale such as our award winning Killellan, (Winner Champion Bitter of Great Britain) purchase our lovely Houston Crystal in 500ml bottles and other ales in 4 pint jugs.  Our Head Brewer will be on hand to offer any advice and to have a general chit chat to. Leave the car at home so that you can enjoy a taste of Houston.”

Bernard from Fencebay Fishery said “We do have lots of local supporters in the Lochwinnoch area so we are looking forward to seeing them all again at this market.  We will have a good range of shellfish, smoked and fresh fish.  Currently in season is trout, salmon, haddock, lemon sole as well as langoustines and squat lobsters.

There is more than one reason to leave the car at home for this market, Caurnie Soaps with their wonderful range of handmade soaps and botanical toiletries will give you a FREE bar of soap (worth £4) if you come by bicycle to this market.  Their Nettle Shampoo was voted BEST BUY in the Ethical Consumer Magazine this year.

Keeping the food miles low and helping sustain our nature and wildlife are the bees and their honey from Ian Craig, the bees are located on the shores of Castle Semple Loch hence its zero food miles for this product – real local produce.  This market will have stalls both inside and outside, providing room for a wider range of locally produced goods and artisan products.

Visitors will be able to purchase fresh locally produced Black faced lamb from Dowries Farm in Inverclyde and Aberdeenshire Angus Beef reared in Renfrewshire as well as pork, vension and meat pies.  As well as meat there should be cheese, free range eggs, locally marinated olives and things, a big range of fresh tasty breads, chutneys, balsamic dressings as well as a great selection of seasonal fruit and vegetables.

For those with a sweeter tooth there will be hand crafted chocolate and ice-cream from the Limetree Larder at Auchencloigh Farm, Kilbirnie as well as a tempting range of farmhouse preserves, cakes, scones, tea loaves, dumplings, puddings, fruit pies and confectionery.

For those keen to grow your own food The Potting Shed will have a range of plants and seeds as well as some spring bulbs, ready for planting now.

The Lochwinnoch market has lots of FREE parking and is on Sustrans cycle route 7.  On site all day are refreshments, bike and boat hire, outdoor activity courses and an attractive selection of loch side and woodland walks. As well as the benefits of buying fresh local produce direct from the producer, visitors to the Farmers Market have the opportunity of entering a FREE prize draw.  The lucky winner will carry away a hamper full of tasty treats and products from each market stall!
