A husband and wife are among 170 graduates who are celebrating their success following the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Paisley graduation.
The morning ceremony, which took place at Paisley Abbey on Wednesday 14 November, saw international students and parents-of-three Raid Alzubi and Hadeel Al Zoubi each receive their PhD in computing and machine learning from UWS’ School of Computing, Engineering and Physical Sciences.
Speaking about this momentous occasion, Raid said: “The staff at UWS have offered us unlimited support from day one. Our academic success would not have been possible without their unwavering guidance, care and patience. Earning a PhD was our dream and it has finally come true.
“Being a part of the International Students’ Society at UWS allowed us to take part in many academic and social activities. Paisley is a great place for international students, we have met so many kind and friendly people that we hope to stay in touch with.”
Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS presided at the ceremony whilst the main address came from Professor Steve Olivier, Provost and Deputy Principal of UWS.
Commenting, Professor Craig Mahoney said: “Graduation day is a very special occasion as it is a time to reflect on all that has been achieved, whilst heralding a new beginning. We pride ourselves on being an international university that is committed to supporting all students and to providing them with a high quality, truly modern and innovative university experience.
