glasgow airportGlasgow Airport Crowned Airport of
the Year

Friday 29th June 2012

Glasgow Airport was officially crowned Scottish Airport of Year at the 2012 Scottish Transport Awards which were held at the Grand Central Hotel, Glasgow on Thursday 14 June.

The airport was recognised for its ongoing efforts in regrowing passenger numbers and route development, as well as its commitment to customer service which saw it become the first airport in Scotland to launch a customer charter earlier this year.

The award comes at a time when passenger numbers are continuing to climb at Glasgow and follows the recent launch of Emirates Airline’s second daily direct service to Dubai, a route which is of vital economic importance to Scotland. In 2011, almost seven million passengers travelled through Glasgow Airport, representing an increase of 5.1% compared to the previous year, and this pattern of growth has continued into 2012.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: “To be named Scottish Airport of the Year is a fantastic achievement and it is testament to the dedication and commitment of the team we have in place. We have achieved a great deal of success over the course of the past 18 months in regards to regrowing passenger numbers and securing new routes, and the significant investment we have made in enhancing our facilities, coupled with the launch of our customer charter, has been a major factor in encouraging more people to fly from Glasgow Airport.”

Now in their tenth year, the Scottish Transport Awards are supported by the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland and recognise excellence, innovation and progress across all areas of transport. airport awards
