Powerful Fire Lesson is Gift to Charities

Charity staff learned all about fire safety at a free course. Organised by Code Red Fire Safety, the training day was held at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew recently. Representatives from a number of local charities took part in the free event.

Mark Pettigrew one of Code Red’s Co Owners said: “Staff fire training is a legal requirement under the Fire Scotland Act 2005. We wanted to give back something to local charities to keep them fire safe and as a thank you for doing all their good work around Renfrewshire and Scotland. We know that fire safety is an issue around the festive season and is a threat to any business, so we were happy to offer this course to them for free.”

The charities involved in the day were Engage Renfrewshire, Kibble works, MND Scotland, Crisis Counselling, Royal British Legion, Action for Children and the MS Society.

The day covered such topics as the causes of fire, how it can spread, current legislation and responsibilities, selecting and using a fire extinguisher, what to do in the event of a fire and when and how to safely evacuate your building.There was also live practical fire extinguisher training using a gas powered simulator.
