Arthur McKay Builds Leadership Status at Award Ceremony

One of Scotland’s largest building support services group has celebrated great success at a prestigious awards ceremony earlier this month

Building support experts Arthur McKay, a £63million a year company, employing over 630 staff across the UK is proud to announce that one of their employees has been awarded with the Apprentice of the Year award.

Adam Ronald, from Paisley, beat off stiff competition from 400 other hopefuls to receive the accolade from SELECT, the authoritative trade body for the electro-technical industry in Scotland.

Adam, 23, who is now working as a project engineer for Arthur McKay in Glasgow, said: "This is a fantastic honour. I knew I was up against a strong field of candidates and taking this award exceeds all my expectations."

The award, sponsored by the Scottish Joint Industry Board and Edmundson Electrical, the leading distributor of electrical equipment to trade and industry in the UK, was presented at a glittering gathering at the Radisson Blu in the centre of Glasgow on October 7.

Graham Walker, regional manager at Arthur McKay’s Glasgow office, said: “Adam has a real natural ability and a willingness to learn and develop.  He is fantastic with clients and pays particular attention to detail in all his work activities.

“He’s already really growing into the role of project engineer and he has been identified as someone that can be developed and progress through the company to a senior management level.”

SELECT encourage, recognize and reward electrical apprentices who have demonstrated that they have attained the highest standard of academic and technical competence and displayed excellent personal qualities in their education and training as an electrical apprentice.

Newell McGuiness, SELECT Managing Director, said: "Adam has demonstrated an excellent attitude towards the training scheme, his work, his colleagues and his customers throughout his apprenticeship.”

Adam is just one of 64 apprentices currently employed at Arthur McKay, as part of company initiative to help support young and raw talent within the electrical, mechanical, facilities management and networking sectors.

The company is highly committed to providing quality training schemes across all their divisions and it is this commitment to training, which led the team to also be selected as finalists in the category for Best Use of Training at this years SELECT awards, positioning them one of the top employers for training in the country.
