SCC Welcomes Infrastructure Vision For Scotland

sccTuesday 6th December 2011

Commenting on the publication of the Scottish Government’s revised Infrastructure Investment Plan, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said:

“This revision of the Scottish Government’s Infrastructure Investment Plan is a welcome step forward in the way Scotland plans its capital spending.  Rather than rely on short-term thinking, this new plan sets out a long term vision for what Scotland need and how and when it will be delivered.  Our hope is that there will be widespread buy-in to this vision.

“We particularly welcome the commitment to upgrade road and rail links between Scotland’s cities and to deliver next generation broadband to all of Scotland’s businesses and communities.  Delivering this kind of connectivity is essential if Scotland is to compete in the global marketplace of the 21st century.

“We also welcome the firm commitment by the Scottish Government to deliver High Speed Rail to Scotland.  The ball is now firmly in the court of the UK Government to ensure that planning takes place now to ensure the early connection of Scotland to the UK’s High Speed Rail network.

“The Scottish Government has shown that they are listening to business’s priorities to ensure our future economic growth and it is now down to them to deliver on the infrastructure goals they have promised.”
