Join us on the 16th of December at the Glynhill Hotel for our Christmas Networking Lunch, our last event of 2010. There is no speaker at this lunch just some relaxed networking and festive cheer, with music from ROCCO Award performers - Loud 'n' Proud, a charity raffle with great prizes and member stalls including Rainbow Turtle & Sunshine Gallery plus OnSite Massage. We had 80 attendees last year, so this is always a popular, relaxed event. |

2010 Chamber Review

Chamber Members pull together to help Paisley “Strut its Stuff!”
A number of Renfrewshire Chamber members came together recently to create a fundraising fashion event at the heart of Paisley, aimed at showcasing the great trends available right in the town centre.
The Piazza Shopping Centre, Kenneth Edward Hairdressing, The Watermill Hotel and Rainbow Turtle worked together with brand, design and marketing agency Branding Boutique to pull together the event itself, which also raised valuable funds for St Vincent’s Hospice.
In addition, a Makeover Competition took place in association with The Gazette Series in the run up to the event, with the prizes sponsored by Piazza retailers, Kenneth Edwards Salons and the Watermill Hotel.

Amendments to Pregnant Workers Directive Could Cost UK £3bn
Scottish Chambers of Commerce, alongside its fellow chambers across Europe has called upon EU employment ministers to conduct a thorough assessment of the European Parliament’s amendments to the Pregnant Workers Directive.
Commenting ahead of a discussion to be held by EU employment ministers on Monday, Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce said:
“The changes to the Pregnant Workers Directive agreed by the European Parliament in October place unacceptable costs on the public purse and businesses. If EU ministers do not act, the UK alone could face £3bn in extra costs - to say nothing of the wider impact across the Union's 27 member states. Read More

Bridge of Weir Leather donates to Jamie Oliver’s
charity, Fifteen
Bridge of Weir Leather Company (BoW), part of Scottish Leather Group, manufacturers of technically advanced upholstery leather, has donated hides from their Grampian range in Stone Grey for use on the banquette seating in the refurbishment of Jamie Oliver’s restaurant Fifteen London.
Fifteen London, founded by Jamie Oliver in 2002, is a restaurant that gives disadvantaged young people a chance to have a better future with a career in the restaurant industry. All its profits go to their registered charity, the Jamie Oliver Foundation, which funds its pioneering chef apprenticeship programme. Read More

Accord Hospice - Christmas Events
The Annual Carol Service and Lunch takes place in Paisley Abbey and Paisley Town Hall on Tuesday 21st December at 11am. This is always about the true spirit of Christmas and we hope you can join us. Tickets are £5 each for the service and we're sorry but the Lunch is now sold out. As always we will be joined by the children of Paisley Abbey Junior Choir and the St Columbas Transitus Choir.
A Santa's Grotto is now open every Thursday - Sunday until Christmas Eve in the Paisley Centre. So far over 250 children have visited. A big thanks must also go to Santa Claus for most graciously agreeing to work for the Hospice at this very busy time for him. Why not bring along the kids and come along to meet him. A Paisley based Chauffeur company is expanding on the back of European contract wins. United International Chauffeurs & Events Ltd has sealed a lucrative contract with a sponsor of golf’s PGA European Tour. This will see the company provide hire services at tournaments such as Madrid’s Spanish Open, the BMW Open in Munich, the BMW Championships at Wentworth and the British Open in Kent. The business has also been booked for corporate events in Berlin, Paris, Madrid and Rome and as a result expects turnover to grow by more than 100 per cent to around £260,000 by April. Read More

Paisley is Tiles Better!
A Paisley businessman who recently opened the Paisley Tile Centre on Greenhill Road has pledged his support to the “Paisley is…” promotional campaign.
Brian Aitken, who runs the Paisley Tile Centre, has chosen the cheeky strap line of Paisley is tiles better. Glasgow’s miles better worked a treat in the 1980’s so and Brian figured that it might bring a few welcome smiles for Paisley.
The “Paisley is…”marketing initiative uses the letters “i” and “s” in the word Paisley to help promote different positive messages about the town.
The campaign was launched by the Paisley Vision Board to promote Paisley and attract new businesses back into the town. Brian, who was born and brought up in Foxbar and went to Camphill High School, is getting right behind the idea and will use the logo on his signage, website and literature. Read More |

Project Management & Construction Ltd awarded their first contract for Chivas
Project Management & Construction Ltd have won their first order from Chivas for the construction of a new Duty Paid store and offices at their Glasgow Road, Renfrew facility. Work will commence this steel portal framed building on 13 December and is scheduled for completion in early April 2011.

The Watermill Hotel is situated in the heart of Paisley on the banks of the River Cart which has flooded over the years into the grounds of the hotel. To reduce this risk, the new build floor level was raised 900mm. Ukrainians Give Scots Vodka a Shot
A company that produces the world’s only single malt Scottish vodka is celebrating winning a coveted contract in Ukraine.
Valt Vodka has been distributing its unique blend of the drink for just over three years and in that time has secured major deals with pubs, hotels and restaurants across the country.
Proving popular in places such as Singapore, Thailand, Germany and Spain, Valt has now pulled off a massive coup by getting its vodka into the Eastern European market.

easyJet celebrates 15th birthday at Glasgow Airport
On the 10th of November in 1995 the first easyJet plane arrived at Glasgow Airport on its inaugural flight from London Luton with the strap line ‘making flying as affordable as a pair of jeans - £29 one way’. The airline has remained true to its roots and has reduced the cost of flying further by providing today’s passengers with even lower fares to Glasgow starting from £23.99.
To celebrate, easyJet recreated the first ever flight which was met at Glasgow Airport with a 15th birthday party hosted by Clyde1 DJ Gavin Pearson and attended by Glasgow’s Lord Provost Bob Winter. Passengers were treated to free drinks, cakes, hit music from 1995 and competitions to win free flights to easyJet’s European destinations.
The low-fares airline has flown 46 million passengers on 42 routes from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, and Inverness airports over the past 15 years. Read More
