Chamber News 17th July 2015

ROCCO 2015 entry deadline is now passed for 15 of the 16 awards – thank you to all that entered – another record number of entries – we’re aiming to announce the shortlist ~ 23rd Sep. The one category that is still open (’til the 22/9) is a new ROCCO this year – “Renfrewshire’s Favourite Business” sponsored by the Paisley Daily Express. See the image below for how to nominate / get nominated or visit www.roccoawards.com – thank you #2015Rocco

The ROCCO’s (the annual business awards of Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce) – are now open for entry. Established for over a decade the Rocco’s are Renfrewshire’s premier business event. We are delighted to announce the main sponsor for 2015 is the Ministry of Defence (MoD). Colin Vooght, Regional SaBRE Campaign Director pictured above with Chamber President Audrey Cumberford said:

“The Ministry of Defence is proud be the main sponsor of this year’s Rocco awards. The British Armed Forces are being restructured and by 2020 there will be a greater dependence on the contribution of Reservists who bring a high level of skill and experience to the Armed Forces that they have acquired in the course of their civilian lives. Defence, in turn, provides Reservists with a wide variety of training and additional skills, many of which are transferable back to their civilian roles and which would benefit their employers. Leadership, team work, physical fitness, integrity, selfless commitment and loyalty are all traits we expect and actively encourage in service personnel. Other skills such as first aid, driving qualifications, health and safety and more technical abilities are usually included in the ‘package’ that is a Reservist. The recently announced Defence contracts for new warships to be built on the Clyde will benefit the West of Scotland and those successful contractors will have supply chains that stretch into the Renfrewshire area. As well as the Royal Naval presence the area is also served by a Royal Engineer Squadron from the Army and both offer opportunities for individual development.

Chamber chief exec’ Bob Davidson commented

“we are delighted to have the MoD sponsor ROCCO 2015 as they seek to engage more with the many great companies we have in Renfrewshire. I encourage businesses & organisations from all sectors to enter this year. Winning a ROCCO is a great achievement – the process we follow for selecting a winner is taken very seriously. Across the 16 categories we have something for everyone; from a sole trader or young entrepreneur & community group to well established SMEs and large corporates. We are also delighted that our media partner for this year – the Paisley Daily Express, is sponsoring a new award – Renfrewshire’s Favourite Business. The timeline for this award will be different from the rest – we plan to open for nominations for this award before the end of August – and then open up the shortlist for voting end September. You have plenty of time to enter the Rocco’s – but please don’t leave it to the last minute. You can enter as many categories as you wish, and if you are planning to attend – please book early – the ROCCO’s sell out every year well before the event.”
