A sell-out crowd of 500 watched 16 awards presented at the Normandy Hotel in Renfrew on Friday night at the ROCCO’s; the annual business awards of Renfrewshire Chamber. The area’s premier business event, established for over a decade, was this year sponsored by the Ministry of Defence who gave a surprise event opening with the band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines. New Chamber President Audrey Cumberford (West College Scotland’s Principal) addressed the audience focusing on the Chamber’s successes in the last year and gave special mention to the Paisley City of Culture Bid encouraging all businesses and organisations to “back the bid”. Captain Chris Smith gave the main sponsor address highlighting the importance of Britain’s military especially given recent tragic events. Captain Smith focused on reservists and called on local business to support staff that wish to become one and highlighted the benefits to the individual and the employer. ROCCO regular Fred MacAulay hosted the event and like many was blown away by the quality of entertainment from Sam Holloway, 14yo sax player; 11yo singer Hollie Robinson; & 17yo guitarist Jay Fitzpatrick. The ROCCO raffle raised £8,000 for local charities and good causes with Accord Hospice and Kintyre Base being the Chamber’s main charities for the next year.
