The Chamber helps schools engage with local businesses. Helps them find people and companies to speak to pupils, attend careers events, provides sponsorship, give talks and more. In addition, the Chamber works with the council and local businesses to create opportunities for young people such as apprenticeships, internships, work experience and full employment.

Chamber & Council Schools Partnership Agreement

All 63 schools in Renfrewshire are members of the Chamber. This is possible due to a partnership agreement between the council and the chamber. Examples of companies that have embraced this relationship of council/chamber/school and employer working together are:

  • Scottish Leather
  • Steel Engineering
  • Campbell Dallas
  • Infiniti
  • Bray Controls

Recruit Initiative

The Chamber itself employs young people straight from school via the popular Recruit Initiative. Our current Recruit winning Management Trainee is Nicole Cameron from Castlehead High. Previous winners have been Euan Keltie – Park Mains, Alison Fraser & Finlay Allardice – Johnstone High, Calum Breslin from Park Mains High and Stuart Armstrong – Linwood High.
Finlay now is now working and studying to be a surveyor at Clark Contracts, Euan is now a permanent member of the Chamber team also studying at University. Calum is doing an apprenticeship in Oil & Gas based in Aberdeen and Alison is also attending UWS studying Event Management.

We are also working on a number of pilots and projects across a number of areas with partners such as West College Scotland, involving helping young people learn more than just how to pass exams but to leave schools with ability to:

  • Complete an application form
  • Create a CV
  • Interviews
  • Prepare for life after school

This needs to part of the curriculum and an essential part of schooling. The skills and attitudes that employers are looking for – this is designed to help maximise young peoples chances post school, college or university.

We regularly sponsor and judge/support a number of enterprise related competitions including:

  • Dragons Den
  • Digital Futures at UWS
  • Enterprise Week at UWS
  • UWS PhD Posters

Getting business mentors back into schools on a regular basis and embracing the entrepreneurial spark model locally – and giving young entrepreneurs the support to turn their business idea into reality.

The Chamber is heavily involved in and financially supports Young Enterprise Renfrewshire – the Chambers role here is to:

  • Raise funds
  • Recruit business advisers
  • Secure judges
  • Manage Facebook page and press releases
  • Event & venue support
