Glasgow Airport’s Airspace Change Proposal: Public consultation now open

Date Posted: 20 Oct, 2025

In September 2025, Glasgow Airport successfully passed the Stage 3 Gateway of the UK Civil Aviation Authority’s Airspace Change Process. This allows us to consult and share our plans on how we intend to modernize the way aircraft arrive and depart Glasgow Airport.

We are committed to engaging with our local communities and stakeholders as we develop these proposals, and we want to hear your views. Our consultation begins today, 20th October and closes at 23:59 on 25th January 2026. Further details on how you can share your views and find out more is available below.

Background to our proposal

The UK’s airspace is being upgraded as part of the UK Government’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy. Eighteen airports across the UK are undertaking airspace changes to modernise their arrival and departure routes below 7,000ft, and NATS, the UK’s licensed Air Navigation Service Provider for en-route air traffic operations, is upgrading the route network that sits above 7,000ft.

Glasgow Airport is therefore undertaking an ACP to comply with the UK Government’s Airspace Modernisation Strategy. The proposal we are consulting on aims to ensure that we are using the minimum volume of airspace necessary along with utilising modern satellite-based navigation technology. Our proposal offers opportunities for improvements to noise and Greenhouse Gas Emissions whilst reducing passenger delays and enhancing airport resilience.

Scottish Airspace Modernisation

In Scotland, airspace modernisation is being led by Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow Airport and NATS – the UK’s main provider of air traffic services. Together, they are referred to as ‘sponsors’ for Scottish Airspace Modernisation. This co-ordinated approach is needed as there are a number of interdependencies across Scotland and stakeholders are working together to afford the best solution for air traffic arriving, departing and flying over Scottish airspace.
