Date Posted: 4 Sep, 2025

Renfrewshire-based City Gate Construction (CGC) has announced the formation of a new Operational Board and 3 senior promotions, as part of the company’s continued growth strategy. Matthew Bowater, Kevin Kozicki and Stuart McLachlan all step into Director roles, strengthening the senior leadership team and taking responsibility for the delivery of the long-term strategic vision for the business.
The Operational Board will provide oversight and guidance to the company by monitoring the performance of the business and will use a range of key metrics to optimise processes, maximise quality and performance, both operationally and commercially, whilst remaining customer focussed and managing business risks.
Matthew Bowater is promoted to People Director, Kevin Kozicki is promoted to Construction Director and Stuart MacLachlan is promoted to Finance Director. All three promotions reflect CGC’s commitment to nurturing talent and investing in leadership that supports its continued growth.
Matthew joined CGC in 2018 and his promotion to the Operational Board has been well-earned, as Commercial Director David Palmer comments; “Since joining the business, originally as an external consultant, Matthew has shown professionalism and business acumen beyond his years. He has fulfilled this huge potential and demonstrated his commitment to his own personal growth alongside the growth of the business. He has played a key role in talent acquisition, fostering company culture and compliance throughout the business. I’m excited to work closely with him in his new role as People Director as we continue to invest in our employees and build a best-in-class workplace environment.”
Kevin Kozicki joined CGC as Operations Manager in 2022 and has played a key role in the business’ growth since then, developing important client relationships and optimising framework opportunities. Operations Director Neil Whyte congratulates Kevin: “Kevin brings a wealth of experience in the construction industry and a proven track record of successfully managing large contracts, and nurturing key client relationships. His knowledge and leadership skills are a tremendous asset to the whole company, and he has already delivered exceptional results, which have aligned perfectly with the company’s vision. In his new role as Construction Director, he will continue to develop and assist the team around him as we expand into new markets, and I am looking forward to seeing what he and the other members of the board can achieve in the years ahead.”
Newly appointed Finance Director Stuart MacLachlan joined the CGC team in 2024, and has been instrumental in providing financial support through some key milestones in the Business Growth Strategy, as David Palmer explains: “I am delighted to welcome Stuart onto the Operational Board as Finance Director, a promotion that has been well-earned. In his short time with the company, Stuart has become an important part of the Leadership Team. His financial expertise, professionalism and proven track record in financial planning and reporting will be invaluable to the business as we continue to drive sustainable growth. I look forward to working closer with Stuart to strengthen financial performance, optimise business processes, and fulfilling the company’s strategic goals.”
Founded in 2003, CGC now employs almost 200 staff and trade operatives across the UK. With bases in Linwood, Bellshill, Ayr, Birmingham, London and a new office due to open in Exeter, the company’s offering covers a wide range of services, including new build, refurbishment, facilities management, void & tenanted repairs, fire doors, bespoke joinery, steel and timber fencing, steel fabrication, roller shutter doors and timber preservation. The formation of the Operational Board is a key milestone for the company as it continues on the Employee Ownership route coupled with its robust growth strategy.
