Flights to Canada operating 4 times weekly for Summer 2026

Glasgow Airport celebrated the departure of WestJet’s new direct service to Toronto Pearson International Airport, marking the airline’s return to Scotland’s largest city for the first time since 2022.

The new route will operate four times per week using WestJet’s Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and represents a significant boost for transatlantic connectivity, further strengthening the long-standing economic, cultural and tourism ties between Scotland and Canada.

The inaugural service departed to a celebratory send-off from the airport’s airfield team, with passengers boarding the first flight bound for Toronto – the fifth largest city in North America and a key gateway for onward travel across Canada via WestJet’s extensive network.

Canada remains one of Scotland’s most important international tourism markets, with visitors spending £135 million in 2024 alone, while around 4.8 million Canadians claim Scottish ancestry. The new service is expected to build on these deep-rooted connections, offering greater opportunities for both leisure and business travel between the two nations.

Chris Tibbett, Executive Director, Commercial, Aviation and Marketing for AGS Airports, said: “Today’s inaugural flight to Toronto marks an important milestone for Glasgow Airport and underlines the strength of the relationship between Scotland and Canada.

“We are delighted to welcome WestJet back to Glasgow, a partnership that stretches back to 2015 when the airline first launched services from the airport. The return of this vital transatlantic link is clear evidence of the strong demand that exists for direct connectivity between our two countries, supporting tourism, trade and investment on both sides of the Atlantic.

“With Glasgow preparing to host the Commonwealth Games again this year, the timing of this new service is particularly significant, and we look forward to seeing it go from strength to strength in the years ahead.”

“We are proud to return to Glasgow with a route that reflects where our guests want to go and the connections that matter most to them,” said Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet Director, Airport Affairs and Alliances. “Canada is home to a proud Scottish Diaspora, with deep-rooted ties that are built on shared heritage, culture and community. At WestJet, we are focused on strengthening these historic connections and renewing them for a new generation.”

Councillor Susan Aitken, Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “This is great news for Glasgow and for tourists and business travellers alike. Canada is an important market for the city, with strong cultural and economic ties, and this new direct service will make it easier than ever for visitors to experience our vibrant, welcoming and internationally renowned destination.

“It also provides Glasgow with a valuable connection into a key overseas market, supporting inward investment and strengthening our global connectivity. Congratulations to our partners at Glasgow Airport and to WestJet for recognising Glasgow’s standing as a world‑class and globally connected city.”

The Glasgow–Toronto route not only provides direct access to one of North America’s most dynamic cities and to Niagara Falls, it also strengthens Glasgow Airport’s position as a key international gateway. Toronto Pearson offers an extensive range of onward connections across Canada, as well as US immigration pre-clearance, opening up seamless access to destinations across North America for Scottish travellers.

The addition of the Toronto service further reinforces Glasgow Airport’s commitment to expanding its global route network and delivering increased choice and connectivity for passengers, while supporting the continued growth of Scotland’s aviation, tourism and business sectors.
