Date Posted: 18 Nov, 2024
EPM Solutions, a leading expert in engineering asset management, is pleased to announce a significant milestone: its transition to an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
Founded in 2002, EPM has built a strong reputation in providing expert professional services for an enviable blue-chip customer base who operate in asset intensive, industrial and hazardous environments. Sectors include transport, global energy, waste management, drinks, transport, fuel distribution & storage and manufacturing.
This strategic move to embrace employee ownership underscores EPM’s commitment to empower its dedicated workforce, aiming to foster a culture of continued innovation and ensures the long-term future of the business. The transition to an EOT will not affect day-to-day operations, however the change introduces new advantages for EPM’s workforce, including a greater voice in the company’s strategic direction and potential financial rewards tied to the company’s success.
The decision to transition to an EOT was led by EPM founder Gary Kerr. After careful consideration, Gary has decided to exit the business and as such, step back from his role as Managing Director. “I’m incredibly proud to hand over the reins to our talented team, in doing so, I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone, past and present; staff, associates, customers and partners, who have all played a massive part in the growth and success of EPM. I am truly grateful for the opportunity to lead the business for the past, nearly 23 years now. This transition to an EOT is an exciting milestone, securing EPM’s future and I’m confident that our employees will continue to drive forward the company’s growth and success” said Gary..
“As I step down as Managing Director, I’m eager to dedicate more time to other projects and to leave some space for future opportunities. I’ll always be a keen ambassador for EPM and I’m excited to see what the future holds for the company.”
EPM Solutions is excited to announce the appointment of long-serving Director Kevin McGinnigle as Managing Director. This natural transition ensures seamless continuity and positions the company for future growth. Gary said of Kevin’s appointment “Kevin has been with EPM for 20 years and holds a wealth of experience and knowledge of the business and customers. I’d like to thank him for his commitment to EPM and congratulate Kevin on this appointment. I know he will carry his dedication to great service as he leads the business forward onto its next and exciting phase of development. Kevin’s extensive experience and leadership will be invaluable, and I wish him and EPM every success.”
Kevin expressed his enthusiasm for the future. “I’m excited to lead EPM into this new era of employee ownership. We have a loyal and talented team in place, coupled with our strong client relationships the transition to EOT positions us for continued service and innovation. I would like to take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the Team, to extend our gratitude and thanks to Gary for his leadership, guidance and dedication to the business over the last 20 years.
He leaves an incredible legacy of success as far as EPM the business is concerned, and from a personal level I would like to thank him for the opportunities, mentoring and support he has given me throughout my career with EPM.
Becoming an EOT is a fantastic opportunity for the whole Team to have a significant influence on how we move forwards as a business. We aim to embrace this change, whilst continuing to provide the high level of service our customers have come to expect.
There’s no doubt that exciting times lie ahead for EPM.”
By moving to employee ownership, EPM joins a growing number of Scottish businesses that see EOTs as a model for long-term stability and employee engagement.
Colm Kerr of McKee Campbell Morrison provided legal advice for the transaction. He says, “A sale to an EOT is a great option for entrepreneurial businesses such as EPM Solutions. This allows the owner to realise their value, whilst offering continuity to both employees and clients. “
Carole Leslie and Alan Watt of Ownership Associates provided comprehensive, specialist advice on the transition to employee ownership. This included the valuation of the business, structuring the transaction, obtaining HMRC clearance and project managing the completion process. Ownership Associates are the leading provider of this advice, with an involvement in over 30 EOT deals in 2024.
