A Renfrewshire business has been greenlit to receive up to £10,000 in grant funding to support its transition to net zero after accessing support from Business Gateway.

Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, which specialises in selling a wide range of bathroom suites and accessories, has been successful in its application to Renfrewshire Council’s Net Zero Fund, which offers up to £10,000 towards new sustainability projects that contribute to reducing the local area’s carbon emission outputs.

The business has been supported on its green journey by Renfrewshire’s Business Gateway team who have played an integral part in reducing its emissions.

Thanks to signposting from Business Gateway, Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms is working with the University of Strathclyde’s Extend Plus Programme, which works with businesses to assist in understanding their carbon footprint and provides detailed recommendations for reduction both as a business and for staff and customers.

A local Business Gateway Adviser, Robert Kinniburgh, has also supported the team in improving its overall awareness of carbon emissions that the business generates, offering expert guidance on how to reduce or remove these going forward.

The £10,000 funding will go towards the costs of purchasing and installing solar panels, which, once up and running, will allow the company to direct the money saved in energy costs towards other business development activities.

Brian Toward, CEO of Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms, said: “Business Gateway’s guidance has been instrumental in helping us to understand our carbon footprint and creating an effective action plan to meet our ambitious net zero goals.

“Our adviser has been superb in helping us navigate funding opportunities and introduced us to the Extend Plus Programme, which has helped us access critical funding.”

Robert Kinniburgh, Business Gateway adviser said: “It’s inspiring to see local businesses taking the initiative to reduce their carbon footprint and strive towards net zero.

“We are delighted to have supported Wholesale Domestic Bathrooms in its journey and hope that its success will encourage other businesses to take the step towards a greener future.”
