United Airlines Increases Seat Offer on Glasgow – New York/Newark Service by 22 per cent for Summer 2026

GLASGOW, 5 February 2026 – United Airlines today announced an extension of its new nonstop seasonal service between Glasgow and New York/Newark, offering a more than 22 per cent increase in available seats for summer 2026. Set to launch on 9 May, the new route will now operate until 24 October 2026, one month longer than previously scheduled. United will be the only U.S. airline offering a nonstop service between Glasgow and the United States. The route marks United’s return to Glasgow, which the airline served previously up until October 2019 and will be the first scheduled service by a U.S. airline between Glasgow and the United States since 2019.

The route from Glasgow to New York/Newark is part of United Airlines’ wider summer 2026 schedule, featuring service to four new cities in Croatia, Italy, Scotland and Spain – leading the way with the most destinations across the Atlantic of any U.S carrier. In Summer 2026, United will be the only U.S. airline to launch nonstop flights to four new destinations from its hub in New York/Newark to Split, Croatia; Bari, Italy; Glasgow, Scotland and Santiago de Compostela, Spain. The airline is also adding its first service between Washington/Dulles and Reykjavik, Iceland, new nonstop year-round daily service from New York/Newark to Seoul, South Korea, as well as an additional four weekly flights, for 18 total weekly flights, between New York/Newark and Tel Aviv, Israel. All new flights are subject to government approval.
 
As the leader in service from the U.S. across the Atlantic, United is continuing that momentum by serving a total of 44 destinations across the Atlantic in 2026 and offering nearly 800 weekly transatlantic roundtrips in Summer 2026. In addition to new destinations, in 2026 United will continue to serve eight destinations from its largest expansion ever last summer including seasonal service to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira Island, Portugal; Faro, Portugal; and continue the already year-round service from Puerto Escondido, Mexico and Kaohsiung. 
 
Across the globe, United will offer more than 850 daily flights to and from over 150 international destinations – including 41 that no other U.S. network carrier serves – next year.

United’s nonstop seasonal service from Glasgow to New York/Newark will be operated with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, featuring 16 United Premium PlusSM, 54 Economy PlusSM and 96 economy seats.

United Premium Plus features a spacious seat with more legroom, elbow room and recline than a standard Economy Plus or economy seat, as well as an amenity kit, Saks Fifth Avenue blanket and plush pillow.
United Economy Plus offers added legroom and increased personal space. Located near the front of the economy cabin, the seats give the added benefit of a swifter exit from the plane on arrival. Economy Plus seating is available on all trans-Atlantic flights.
 
United economy offers complimentary food, soft drinks, juices, beer and wine, tea, coffee and inflight entertainment. On most aircraft, seats feature an adjustable headrest and a personal on-demand entertainment system.

United in New York/Newark
Located just 23 kilometres from Manhattan, Newark Liberty International Airport offers the fastest surface transfer journeys to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan, with a journey time of less than 30 minutes.
 
During the summer season 2026, United plans to serve over 160 destinations in 49 countries from Newark. United’s Newark hub is its largest transatlantic gateway, with service planned to 42 destinations in Europe, India, Africa and the Middle East.
 
United Airlines has expanded its United Polaris lounge dining room at Newark Liberty International Airport, featuring expanded seating options, enhanced dining and views of the New York City skyline.
